Description

8 inch bolt cutters, Knipex CoBolt compound cutting pliers
The Knipex CoBolt is a pair of 8 inch bolt cutters built for cutting wire up to 2000 N/mm2 tensile strength at relatively low applied force. Its compound action multiplies hand force, so this compact bolt cutter at 200 mm (7.9 in.) overall fits a tool bag while covering maintenance, electrical installation, fabrication, and site service work.

Drop-forged chrome vanadium electro-steel, oil-hardened, gives the Knipex CoBolt its strength, and the jaws wear a chemically blackened surface. This is a Knipex bolt cutter in the small bolt cutters class, sized to do the work of heavy duty bolt cutters on wire while taking up far less room in your kit than full-length cutters.

Key features:
• Cutting capacity: soft steel wire 6 mm (0.2 in.), medium-hard steel wire 5.2 mm (0.2 in.), piano wire 3.6 mm (0.1 in.)
• Induction hardened cutting edges: approximately 64 HRC keeps the edges working through hard-wire duty
• Opening spring and integral lock: the jaws reset automatically between cuts, and the lock keeps the tool closed in a pocket or pouch
• Multi-component grips: layered handle covering gives a secure hold while you squeeze through a cut
• Straight jaw position: the cutting head runs in line with the handles rather than set at an angle

What are bolt cutters like the CoBolt used for?
Compact bolt cutters cut steel wire that ordinary pliers cannot, and this CoBolt covers soft steel, medium-hard steel, and piano wire within its rated capacities.
Applications: soft steel wire cutting, medium-hard steel wire cutting, piano wire cutting, high-tensile wire removal, repair and maintenance cuts, assembly trimming.
Industries: electrical contracting, mechanical maintenance, metal fabrication, construction, plant engineering.
Users: electricians, maintenance technicians, fabricators, service crews.

How do you use bolt cutters this size safely?
Open the jaws, seat the wire well back between the cutting edges, and close the handles smoothly through the cut. The compound action needs relatively little applied force, so a steady squeeze finishes the cut without rocking the tool side to side. Cut at a right angle to the wire so the edges meet the material squarely.

What do bolt cutters look like in this format?
In this compact format, bolt cutters look like heavyweight pliers rather than the long-handled shears most people picture. The CoBolt is a mini bolt cutter that spans 200 mm (7.9 in.) from jaw tip to handle end, so it stows in a pouch pocket and rides on a belt more like pliers than like a demolition tool.

Which wire falls outside the CoBolt's rated range?
Anything above 2000 N/mm2 tensile strength sits outside the rating, so check the wire class before you cut. Within the rating you size by type, since soft steel allows the largest diameter, medium-hard steel slightly less, and hardened piano wire the smallest. When a wire runs near the limit for its class, step up to a larger cutter rather than forcing this one.
