The Marking vernier caliper, a manual caliper from HOLEX, scribes parallel layout lines directly at a set dimension in toolrooms, fabrication shops, pattern shops, and on maintenance benches. Its measuring beam carries a metric graduation of 0.1 mm and an inch graduation of 1/128 in., so you can work from either drawing standard.
You set the head to your target dimension and draw the tool along the part so the carbide scriber cuts a fine, repeatable line parallel to the reference edge. Before you scribe, how do you confirm the vernier setting?
Read the main beam up to the vernier's zero mark for the whole units, then add the fraction from whichever vernier line lands exactly on a beam graduation. On this tool the metric side resolves 0.1 mm and the inch side 1/128 in. Practice on a known dimension first, and view the scales straight on to avoid parallax error.
Can a caliper scribe layout lines as well as measure?
